These would be perfect for any day, but especially Easter, birthday parties, and any other time you just want some beautiful Spring colored treats.

As with all of our favorite recipes, this one is super simple and you even get to use a boxed mix, so you can spend all your fun energy on decorating.

And believe me, that’s the fun part!

The best part about these is that you can’t mess up! More is better, and you get to be extra creative while decorating these.

The Pinterest moms will never know its a box recipe because they will look amazing!

This is even a great recipe for the kids to join in on as well.

Let’s get to making these beautiful donuts!

Here is what you will need:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 box white cake mix (this post we’ll be using Pillsbury 15.25oz…but grab your favorite brand, or the one that’s on sale!)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 C water
  • ⅓ C Vegtable Oil
  • 1 Container of White Frosting (we used Pillsbury Creamy Supreme 16oz, but again, grab your favorite!)
  • Gel Food Coloring:
    • Rose
    • Teal
    • Purple
    • Blue
    • Yellow

(These are the colors used in this post, but feel free to mix it up to the colors you prefer, or depending on the season or theme too!)

You can get the donut pan used in this recipe here.

DIRECTIONS:

Making The DONUTS:

1. Preheat oven to 350℉.

2. Add cake mix, eggs, oil and water to the bowl of a stand mixer (or electric hand mixer) and beat on low for 1-2 minutes to combine.

3. Divide the mixed batter into 5 bowls (you can use 4 bowls plus leave some in the bowl you mixed in…or however many colors you want to use for this recipe)

4. Use a toothpick and scoop out some gel food coloring and add to a bowl. Mix with a spoon. If you want to add more coloring use a clean toothpick until desired color is reached. Repeat for all using separate spoons for each bowl.

*Note- Food Coloring Gel is VERY strong, so if you want a light color, start off really small.

For the green, combine yellow and blue.

6. Spray mini donut pan with non-stick spray or rub each slot with butter, so they are easy to come right out.

7. Pour a little of each color into each donut slot to about ¾ of the way full.

8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until it a donut bounces back to the touch and doesn’t feel jiggly underneath.

MAKING THE ICING:

1. Open up your frosting container and take off the aluminum film and discard before placing the container in the microwave for 30-45 seconds to melt the icing.

2. Divide melted icing into 4 small bowls. (These directions used purple, pink, yellow and teal)

3. Add gel food coloring to each bowl, just as you did to the batter. Stir in the food coloring gel until you get the perfect color you like.

4. Dip cooled donuts into desired icing color.
You can use your fingers or two forks or tongs if its easier.

5. Place each dipped donut on a wire rack with a cookie sheet underneath so the icing can set before decorating.
(Or you can lay them on foil or wax paper, cause we’re all about easy!)

6. Once all of the donuts are iced, take remaining icing and, using a separate spoon for each color, drizzle over the top of the donuts, one color at a time.

7. Decorate to your hearts content until you love the look!

ENJOY!!!
