Make Your Own Heart Sugar Cookies

When you make heart sugar cookies, make sure you plan ahead and let that butter sit out at room temperature. It will beat better, making for smoother results.

Then it will be easy to add the powdered sugar to this mixture. Vanilla and egg whites go next along with that pinch of salt. Then you’ll gradually add in the flour. Soon you’ll have a nice dough to work with, but it needs to sit in a cool place for 30 minutes. Cover it with a cotton cloth and take a nap, or have a cocktail…no judgement!

You can then roll out the dough on a prepared surface. Try to aim for a thickness of 1cm to 1.5cm. Then you can use your little heart-shaped cookie cutter to make the hearts. Bake the heart sugar cookies for 10 minutes until the edges are a little golden.

Once they cool, you can get your frosting ready. You want to beat the egg whites until they’re frothy before adding the powdered sugar and adding the vanilla. After getting it together, you can split the icing into small batches for as many colors as you need.

You’ll add gel food coloring to each of these separated batches, mixing them well. You can then put them in piping bags to make it easy to ice your heart sugar cookies.

It works best if you trace an outline around the heart and fill it in, using a little water to help it floor through. See below to get the full steps on how to make your heart sugar cookies look perfect and steal someone’s heart!
