What You Will Need for the Cookie Monster Donut

  • Chocolate chip cookies – The recipe below teaches you how to make them from scratch with butter, brown sugar, white sugar, egg, flour, vanilla extract, baking powder, salt, and chocolate chips.
  • Blue vanilla frosting – You’ll make this with butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, heavy whipping cream, and blue food gel coloring.
  • Edible eyes – So it looks like Cookie Monster!
  • Two large piping bags, one with a star tip
  • Vanilla nutmeg donuts – You’ll make these with flour, ground nutmeg, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, egg, vanilla extract, and canola oil.

Make Your Own Cookie Monster Donuts

This recipe makes 6 donuts so plan accordingly for all your hungry guests. You’ll start with the chocolate chip cookies, prepping the pan and the oven, and then beating the butter, sugars, egg, and vanilla in a stand mixer until it’s fluffy.

For the flour, salt, and baking powder, add those to a small bowl, then beat them into the wet stuff until you get a dough. The chocolate chips get folded in next, and then you can scoop the dough out and bake these for 10 minutes.

You’ll then make the frosting by beating the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy whipping cream until it’s smooth and creamy with nice, stiff peaks. That’s when you’ll mix sky blue food gel in and then you can put it into the piping bag with the star tip.

For the donuts, you’ll preheat your oven to 350F and prep the donut pan with baking spray. Whisk the flour, nutmeg, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl while you put the milk, egg, vanilla, and oil in a large bowl, whisking until combined. You’ll then unite the dry ingredients with the wet stuff and scoop your batter into the other piping bag.

Be careful that you don’t overfill the donut cavities! You should only fill them about ¾ of the way. These will bake for 12 minutes.

After that is the best part! You’ll pipe the blue frosting all over the top of the donut, add the eyes in the middle, and put half a chocolate chip cookie at the bottom corner to make it look like Cookie Monster is eating it.

The full recipe follows below, but if you’re in a pinch for time, you can always bake the pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough, add blue gel food coloring to a vanilla frosting, and decorate plain donuts from the store. However, the best taste will come from making it from scratch!
