Make Your Own Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Bars
You read that right…you only need 5 ingredients to make these crowd-pleasing treats. Perfect for parties, classroom treats, or even for tucking into those school lunches, they couldn’t be easier.
You’ll start by getting your baking dish lined with parchment. This will make life easier for you when removing them from the pan.
You’ll pour the cereal into your large mixing bowl. Meanwhile, you’ll use a double boiler to melt your chocolate chips with peanut butter and maple syrup. Mix this blissful combination up until it’s smooth and get it off the heat. Alternatively, you can microwave these things together until they get the right consistency.
Once finished, stir the vanilla in and pour it over that dry cereal. Mix this all together and then scrape it into that baking dish. Use a rubber spatula to smooth things over.
Look at the photos and instructions below for how to use that parchment paper excess to flatten them out further for the best presentation. Then pop this into the fridge for an hour to let it set. In a hurry? Use the freezer instead for 15 minutes.
After these chocolate peanut butter rice Krispie treats have been set, you can cut them up into squares. They’ll keep in an airtight container…that is if any remain after you serve them!
Ingredients
- ½ cup of chocolate chips
- ¾ cup of peanut butter
- ¼ cup of maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 3 cups of rice Krispies cereal
Directions:
- Line a 9×13” baking dish with parchment paper. Leave enough on the ends that when you fold them towards the center, they cover the entire dish. You will want to use about 24” of parchment paper.
- Pour 3 cups of rice Krispies cereal into a large mixing bowl.
- In a double boiler, (or the microwave) melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and maple syrup. Mix until smooth and remove from heat.
- Immediately stir in the vanilla extract and then pour over the dry cereal in the mixing bowl.
- Mix until the cereal is coated by the peanut butter mixture and immediately scrape into the prepared baking dish.
- When the cereal is in the dish, smooth it out as much as you can with a rubber spatula.
- Now, the excess parchment paper comes into play. Fold the edges over the dish so that the crispy bars are covered. Lightly press them down with your hands (this step will be mess-free thanks to the parchment paper!)
- Leave the paper covering the bars and stick the dish into the fridge for about an hour, or if you are in a hurry, you can stick the dish into the freezer for 15 minutes.
- Remove from the baking dish by lifting the parchment paper out. Cut into 3” squares and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
