Picture this…your doorbell rings and your in-laws show up to stay for the weekend. Your father-in-law plops on the couch and clutches the TV remote. Meanwhile your mother-in-law runs her finger over every surface and makes a disapproving frown.

“That’s not how I do it in my house,” she tsks at you.

But there is something you can do to put her in her place. With these 3-ingredient apple muffins, she won’t have a thing to say. Except “Mmmm” as her mouth will be full because she won’t be able to stop cramming them into her mouth.

What You Will Need for 3-Ingredient Apple Spice Cake Muffins

  • 1 Box Spice Cake Mix – We like Betty Crocker because it comes out super moist.
  • Applesauce – Walmart’s store brand is an excellent choice for taste and value.
  • Apple – You’ll need just one, diced up.

How To Make Your Own Easy Apple Muffins

While you’ll only need 3 ingredients to make these tasty apple muffins, you should also be sure to have a muffin tin and cupcake/muffin liners. And no, you do not have to grease anything if you use those liners.

No liners? Then you absolutely have to grease the muffin tin or the muffins will stick and it will be this big, awful mess.

When using the box mix in this way, you don’t need all the other stuff the box requires you to add when baking a cake or making cupcakes. You’ll just preheat your oven, then mix together the cake mix, applesauce, and diced apples.

These 3-ingredient apple muffins are such a simple baking activity, you could even have the kids help you out. After this, you’re probably going to keep the spice cake mix, applesauce, and apples around ALL the time.

Sometimes, it can be a challenge to pour the batter into the muffin tins from a bowl. You can scoop it out with a measuring cup and add it into the tin. This way, the muffins will be even in size.

It should be obvious when they’re ready (about 20 minutes of baking time), especially since the smell is so incredible you’ll likely be lurking around the kitchen until your timer goes off. On top, the muffins will have a nice, golden color but you can also do the toothpick test to be sure. No one wants to bite into a muffin with a raw center.

You can let them cool a bit before serving or serve them fresh from the oven. Serve them as-is or with butter. Or honey butter! Now there’s an idea! Get the full details on these 3-ingredient apple muffins below!
